"Through written word and moving image...
... we gather together, communicate with one another, express our triumphs and sorrows, and explore our deepest connections to the universe. Most importantly...
... we tell our stories."
Welcome to Kitch Media & Compositions, and I invite you to join me...
... in the story that is the next story. Whether you are reading or watching my next project, or working alongside me towards its completion, you are an integral part of the incredible, challenging, and rewarding journey that is storytelling.
It all begins with the concept : a dream, a nightmare, an ambition, a passion, a goal; the nebulous something composed of raw information and emotion that are the building blocks of a story. From these primordial ideas are formed character, setting, and motivation, which lead to relationships, world-building, arcs, and conflicts. This all fits within the outline, or plot, consisting of exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, dénouement, and resolution. Of course, what is a good story without a bit of dialogue? What exciting things will the characters say to one another? There is knowledge to teach, arguments to be had, troubles to confess, and love to express. These are the tools I approach every project with, be it started with my own concepts or those of my collaborators, and I work until the story lives on in polished literature and film.
Maybe you say, "John, I don't need a fairytale. I just need a 30-second radio spot for my family's business. There's really no need for all of this." However, this is where we can make a difference, together. In the hands of a capable storyteller, your ideas for a commercial will be taken to the next level. The audience will find themselves transported into the shoes of these characters in our 30-second story, imagining themselves as the satisfied customers that chose your hardworking business over the bigger retailer. It is still a story, a very important story, about you, your passion for your work, and your care for your customers.

Whether I create for you, or create with you, it is an honor to create.
Allow me to introduce myself.
My name is John R. Kitch, and I am a writer and filmmaker residing in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.
In 2013, I graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production from the Art Institutes International – Kansas City. Since then, I have written copy for CinemaKC (an indie film showcase airing on PBS affiliate KCPT), completing content for their website and press releases. I have also worked with various independent film companies and productions, especially with Alicia Smith of Cheesegirl Productions, Barry Wilson of Wilson Art & Video, and Nicholas Young of Nicholas Young Films (formerly Cairn Productions). With Nicholas Young Films, I have completed copy and assisted with media business writing, as well as co-written a short screenplay, Toy Cars, which was developed into the short film Boy in Between (selected and screened at Kansas City Filmfest International in 2021). I continue to work in independent filmmaking, assist productions, and write articles, short stories, and novels. I am always seeking to branch out farther into creative corporate work that covers both written and visual media. I am dedicated to excellence in word-craft and research, aiming to reach an emotional core with every reader, viewer, and listener, no matter the format or genre. Through my frequent collaborations, I understand and appreciate the value of teamwork, and I am eager to supply important assets to any and all teams I join. |
